Combine Art and Mapping

In order to prepare different kinds of maps, it will be really interesting to combine the pictures that we often encounter in daily life with geometric data.


As it is known, maps are generally created with CAD and GIS software. Base maps, geographic data and other important supplementary information are needed when creating maps with GIS software.

But in general, maps are uninteresting and unattractive. Based on this situation, the thought of combining art and mapping excited me.


An attempt was made to create a kind of map using the required basemap and shapefiles on QGIS software.

The Starry Night painting by Vincent Van Gogh was combined with shapefiles.


Note: If you want to download shapefile data of a field, I recommend you to use QuickOSM plugin in QGIS software. And again, the QuickMapServices plugin offers dozens of maps for the basemap.


As a result, a creative map that I have prepared is presented below.
